    Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) is a technology that uses gasification process to turn coal, bio-mass and other heavy residual oil into synthesis gas for combined cycle generation fuel. What makes coal-based IGCC power plants different from other conventional power plants is that the former features gasification plants that turn coal into clean gas. The gasification process can not only generate electricity but also produce a variety of products, including chemical feedstock, hydrogen, synthetic natural gas and synthetic oil, depending on downstream facilities and process configuration changes.

우리는 지금 2MW/1MWh의 Li-ion 배터리를 설치한 하디슨 변전소에 있습니다. 곧 노스 에버렛에 2번째 ESS를 설치할 예정이며, Vanadium Redox Flow 배터리를 활용한 2MW/8MWh 규모의 ESS가 될 것입니다. 이 두 개의 ESS 모두 두산의 Intelligent Controller로 제어되고 있으며, 두산의 DERO를 통해 원격으로 제어하는 것도 가능합니다.

Electricity is the energy that makes our life easier, connects our communities
and propels technological innovation. It is the lifeline of our modern world.

Recently, many different methods of generating and using electricity have come up
d accordingly, the grid system that delivers it has also begun to change.

Doosan is embarking on an initiative to open new markets with its customers
to deliver innovative technology-based solutions that can cope with changes
in the energy industry.

Conventional grids have been designed for one-way electric power flow,
where power flows from centralized generation stations to the customers.

However, the growing interest in environmental issues over the past decade
has made it clear that technology plays a great role in building a sustainable environment.

Accordingly, the concept of distributed generation using renewable
energy resources including solar power and wind power has emerged.

Due to the intermittency of renewable energy resources,
electric power output fluctuates, depending on the time of the day, season and weather.

The nature of renewables is a challenge for electric utilities to maintain a steady supply of high quality electric power, and energy prosumers faced with difficulties to efficiently produce and consume electric power.

Likewise, since the existing electric grid was not originally designed to incorporate
renewable energy into the grid, electric utilities and energy prosumers
are constantly challenged to produce and consume electric power more stably
and efficiently.

Interview 1:
Daniel Schwartz, Ph. D Utilities have a tough challenge that they’re facing. Because society is expecting more renewables like solar and wind on the grid. They’re current grid needs new strategies, like smart grid, grid integration, battery storage, all coming together at once.

Batteries provide an ideal solution for utilities and energy prosumers. However, the battery alone, a hardware component of an ESS, cannot tackle all the issues resulting from the increasingly complex energy sector as it undergoes a great deal of change.

In this sense, Doosan enables an optimized integration of distributed generation
to the existing electric grid, and in order to manage electric power steadily and efficiently,
the company provides ESS and distributed generation control system software technology.

Such technology enables the integration, management, and control of ESS and various types of distributed generation, allowing electric utilities to embrace more distributed energy resources and energy prosumers to produce and consume electric power more efficiently.

Jason Zyskowski: We’re here at Hardeson Substation where we have installed two megawatts of lithium ion batteries, we’re working on a second installation in North Everett that’ll be another 2 megawatts, 8 megawatt hours of vanadium redox flow batteries. Both these systems are controlled by the Doosan GridTech Intelligent Controller™ and then can be remotely controlled by the Doosan GridTech DERO™ product.
